HOW TO GET YOUR OWN TRUCKING AUTHORITY

If you are ready to get your own trucking authority to be able to haul over the road, you must have active operating authority. What Do I Need For My Trucking Authority

MC Number
All carriers must obtain their MC Number through the FMCSA in order to transport freight across state lines.

DOT Number
Your DOT Number is the primary tracking identification for your trucking company that registers number of trucks, drivers and stafety ratings.

BOC 3
All truckers for hire must file a BOC 3 form with the FMCSA before Authority will be issued. This designates a process agent in every state who will accept and forward legal documents being served on the motor carrier by an individual or legal entity from outside the carrier’s base state.

Insurance - A carrier is required to obtain Liability and Cargo insurance. It is recommended that you obtain a $1,000,000-liability policy and a $100,000 Cargo policy.

State Requirements

UCR
Individuals and companies that operate commercial motor vehicles across state lines are required to register and pay an annual fee based on the size of their fleet.

IFTA
The International Fuel Tax Agreement is an agreement between the lower 48 states and 10 Candian provinces to simplify the collection of fuel taxes and reporting for interstate carriers.

IRP
The International Registration Plan is an agreement authorizing registration among the US states where commercial motor vehicles operate. State Permits
